Apple To Start Making Some Mac Computers in America in 2013

Apple To Start Making Some Mac Computers in America in 2013

Some iMac owners have been finding lately that their computers were "assembled in the USA."Those U.S.-assembled machines have been few and far between -- most still have "assembled in China" tags. But Apple is planning for many more Mac computers to be made in the U.S. next year.

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the Cupertino-based company is investing $100 million in U.S. based manufacturing for its Mac computers. The project will be an entirely new undertaking.

"And next year we are going to bring some production to the U.S. on the Mac. We've been working on this for a long time, and we were getting closer to it. It will happen in 2013," Cook said in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek's Josh Tyrangiel. "We could have quickly maybe done just assembly, but it's broader because we wanted to do something more substantial."

Apple has manufactured and assembled most of its products in China, and has been widely criticized for the poor working conditions in the factories of its Foxconn contractor there. Apple's late CEO, Steve Jobs, was quoted by biographer Walter Isaacson as complaining to President Obama that U.S. regulations made it easier to build a factory overseas.

His successor, Cook, now speaks of change.

"We'll literally invest over $100 million. This doesn't mean that Apple will do it ourselves, but we'll be working with people, and we'll be investing our money," Cook added in the interview.

After the furor began over conditions at Foxconn in China, ABC News' Bill Weir got an exclusive look at some of its factories in Shenzhen and Chengdu. Since then, Apple, along with the Fair Labor Association, has vowed to make changes to working hours, overtime and more.

Cook elaborated on the progress being made in China in the interview: "I think no one is looking at this as deeply as we are or going as deep in the supply chain. We're back to the mines. We're going all the way, not just at the first layer. And in addition to that, we've chosen to be incredibly transparent with it. I invite everyone to copy us."

According to the interview, Apple will bring Mac production to the U.S. -- but not iPad or iPhone manufacturing. When asked about making an iPhone in the U.S. at the All Things D conference in May, Cook pointed out that some parts are made in the U.S., including the Gorilla Glass screen on Apple's iPhones. Apple has not specified what Mac computer lines -- iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, etc. -- will be made here.

Along with Apple, Lenovo plans to begin production of its ThinkPad laptops and desktops to the U.S. The company will start assembling and making hardware in early 2013 in Whitsett, North Carolina. As a result, Lenovo plans to hire for 115 manufacturing jobs later this year.

When reached by ABC News, Apple pointed us to the interview and would not elaborate on its 2013 U.S. production plans.

Smartphone malware threat to rival desktops in 2013

With smartphones and tablets accounting for an ever increasing amount of online activity, 2013 will see portable devices targeted by malware as often as traditional desktop computers, internet security giant Kaspersky Lab has suggested.

Claiming that cybercriminals are set to increase “drive-by download” attacks within the coming months, Kaspersky Lab has suggested that the coming year will see mobile threats rival those on standard computers, with Google’s Android OS to be the target of many of the attacks.

“2012 has been the year of the explosive growth of mobile malware, with cybercriminals’ primary focus being the Android platform, as it was the most popular and widely used,” an official Kaspersky spokesperson has stated in the company’s 2013 predictions report.

“In 2013 we are likely to see a new alarming trend – the use of vulnerabilities to extend ‘drive-by download’ attacks on mobile devices. This means that personal and corporate data stored on smartphones and tablets will be targeted as frequently as it is targeted on traditional computers.”

As well drive-by download attacks, the Kaspersky report has suggested that 2013 could see the first smartphone based worms introduced. “There is also a high probability that the first mass worm for Android will appear, capable of spreading itself via text messages and sending out links to itself at some online app store,” the company suggested.

Expanding on the recent rise of Android based malware, Kaspersky added: “In June 2012 we identified almost 7,000 malicious Android programs. Overall, in 2012, we identified more than 35,000 malicious Android programs, which is about six times more than in 2011. That’s also about five times more than all the malicious Android samples we’ve received since 2005 altogether.”

They added: “Looking forward, there is no doubt this trend will continue, just like it did with Windows malware many years ago. We are therefore expecting 2013 to be filled with targeted attacks against Android users, zero-days and data leaks.”

Whilst users of Google’s hugely popular Android system are likely to be put at the most risk, Kaspersky has stressed that it is far from the only target for mobile based malicious attacks with iPhone users also at considerable risk. “For the same reasons (rising popularity), new sophisticated attacks will be performed against owners of Apple devices as well,” the company spokesperson added.

Structured settlement factoring transaction

A structured settlement factoring transaction describes the selling of future structured settlement payments (or, more accurately, rights to receive the future structured settlement payments). People who receive structured settlement payments may decide at some point that they need more money in the short term than the periodic payment provides over time. An example would be the payment of personal injury damages over time instead of in a lump sum at settlement. The reasons are varied but can include unforeseen medical expenses for oneself or a dependent, the need for improved housing or transportation, education expenses and the like. To meet this need, the structured settlement recipient can sell (or, less commonly, encumber) all or part of their future periodic payments for a present lump sum.

Virtual data room

A virtual data room (sometimes called a VDR) is an online repository of information that is used for the storing and distribution of documents. In many cases, a virtual data room is used to facilitate the due diligence process during an M&A transaction, loan syndication, or private equity and venture capital transactions. This due diligence process has traditionally used a physical data room to accomplish the disclosure of documents. DRS will thoroughly examine your tape for any kind of damage, whether it is physical or logical, before any attempt is made to recover the data. Our first concern is to secure a copy of your data to the fullest extent possible; this can be achieved by performing a low-level read of your tape. We will then work from a secure copy of your data to identify the format and determine what process will be used to complete the recovery.

After determining what steps will be necessary to complete your tape data recovery, we will contact you. No work will be done without your approval. As soon as you approve the recovery, our engineers will continue with the recovery effort.

Conference call

A conference call is a telephone call in which the calling party wishes to have more than one called party listen in to the audio portion of the call. The conference calls may be designed to allow the called party to participate during the call, or the call may be set up so that the called party merely listens into the call and cannot speak. It is sometimes called ATC (Audio Tele-Conference).
Conference calls can be designed so that the calling party calls the other participants and adds them to the call; however, participants are usually able to call into the conference call themselves by dialing a telephone number that connects to a "conference bridge" (a specialized type of equipment that links telephone lines).

Why Buy Antivirus Software?

Cheetahs and gazelles coevolved with increasing armament escalations comparable to the coevolution of hackers and their prey. Cheetahs and gazelles both have to keep going faster. As the underground organizes itself to attack your computer more efficiently, the best antivirus software vendors continue to improve the defenses available to you. The arms race between identity thieves and their marks will never achieve resolution. If you choose not to involve yourself in the race, the cheetahs will catch you. You don't want that to happen, so please read our articles on computer security to learn how to choose the product that's best for you. Based on our research, we recommend these three products: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Norton AntiVirus.

Even though Microsoft is increasing the strength of Windows' native security features, Microsoft has said that it is only doing so to raise the minimum standard of protection for its customers who will never purchase third-party antivirus software. Unfortunately, PC users who trust Windows' built-in security features will be the first to fall prey to evolving malware. Don't be one of them.

Antivirus Software: What to Look for

Antivirus software products block malware from entering your computer system. When security software is unsuccessful at preventing attacks, it is then supposed to detect and remove the malware that gets through the defenses. If you begin to analyze all of the forms of malware and all of the potential entry points, it quickly becomes quite complicated and confusing. You can reduce the complexity of shopping for virus protection by asking a few key questions. How does the antivirus software perform in third-party tests? What features does it have that pertain to my needs? Does it provide support during the times I will need it?

With offices in Miami, Palm Beach and Orlando, the AV-rated* law firm of Greenberg, Stone & Urbano, P.A. provides effective and ethical legal counsel to injured persons throughout Florida. Partners Stewart G. Greenberg, Mark D. Stone and Dennis N. Urbano offer more than 100 years of experience litigating personal injury cases in Florida and across the nation.

Our Past Cases Illustrate Our Commitment to Justice and Fairness for Injured People
Our personal injury lawyers in Miami continually strive for justice and fairness in the form of compensation for the victims of accidents caused by negligence or intentional wrongdoing by others. Our trial lawyers have obtained many substantial verdicts and settlements in excess of one million dollars, including one case we settled for $22 million. Our Florida injury lawyers have the experience necessary to get the results you need and deserve.

Demonstrated Experience With a Wide Range of Injury Cases
A car accident is different from medical malpractice, which is different from an accident on board a cruise ship. Serious auto accidents typically result in traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and other serious trauma.

For example, statistics by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles show that there were 2,400 fatalities resulting from car accidents in 2011. This is 44 fatalities less than during 2010. However, fatalities of motorcyclists and passengers increased by approximately 18% from 383 to 451 respectively. Similarly, between 2010 and 2011, bicyclist fatalities increased by almost 58% from 76 to 120 respectively. These numbers are reflective of how much we depend on motor vehicles in Florida to conduct our daily lives. They also tell us that many of us may end up getting injured or dying as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Unfortunately, when that happens, we find that most insurance companies mostly care for generating profits for their shareholders and therefore will engage in a number of tactics to reduce or minimize the payments they make as a result of claim settlements. Consequently, many injured victims have no choice but to hire a personal injury lawyer to recover the compensation they may be owed as a result of their injuries. At Greenberg, Stone & Urbano, P.A., our car accident lawyers in Miami have first-hand experience with a wide range of injury and accident lawsuits:

  • Motor vehicle accident claims
  • Premises liability lawsuits
  • Defective product cases
  • Cruise ship accident and injury claims
  • Amusement park accident cases
  • Medical malpractice lawsuits
  • Pharmacy negligence claims
  • Airplane crash lawsuits
  • Wrongful death suits
  • Traumatic brain injury claims
  • Spinal cord injury claims

In a follow-up announcement, Samsung has announced that the New York event will occur in none other than Times Square. Search Engine Marketting

Search engine optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results.[jargon] In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.
The plural of the abbreviation SEO can also refer to "search engine optimizers," those who provide SEO services.
